Spyderco's Sage Series was created to highlight folding knife locking mechanisms and their inventors. One of the most successful members, the Sage 5, showcases Spyderco's own innovative Compression Lock. This locking mechanism is located on the back of the knife and works by clamping part of the liner onto the rear of the blade, ensuring the knife remains securely open. The Sage 5 features a leaf-shaped blade made from CPM SPY27. This steel was specially developed for Spyderco by Crucible and was introduced to the market on January 15, 2020. It offers all the qualities you could want: high wear resistance, excellent edge retention, and strong corrosion resistance. The handle is constructed with stainless steel liners and G10 scales. G10 is a composite material known for its exceptional durability, secure grip (even in wet conditions), and a subtle yet luxurious appearance. Additionally, the Sage 5 includes a reversible tip-up carry clip and a lanyard hole.
